There is a place where Italy comes to an end. Santa Maria di Leuca is the southernmost point of the heel of Italy — where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet in a visible embrace, two distinct shades of blue touching on the horizon.
On the headland stands the Basilica Minore di Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, built on the site where a temple once dedicated to the goddess Minerva is said to have stood. From the seafront, a 286-step staircase climbs up to the sanctuary — a path well worth the effort, with the sea widening at every step and the two horizons opening before you at the top.
Beside the basilica stands the Punta Ristola Lighthouse, built in 1864, rising 47 metres high with a light range of 50 kilometres, alongside the Monumental Waterfall of the Acquedotto Pugliese, which cascades down the headland before flowing directly into the sea.
Choosing DimoreLeuka as your base means having all of this just a short walk away, without needing to rely on a car to fully experience Leuca.

Along the marina and through the streets that branch from it, villas built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Puglian aristocratic families showcase a rich variety of architectural styles.
Villa Mellacqua, with its four Neo-Gothic towers; Villa Meridiana, with its sundial and lantern overlooking the belvedere; Villa De Francesco Licci, built in Moorish style: distinct architectures, all commissioned by some of the most prominent families of Salento.
On the rocks, the private bathing houses — small structures built at water level — still tell the story of the seaside rituals of noble families, who reached the sea away from prying eyes.
The sea of Leuca is crystal clear, with caves carved into limestone cliffs and seabeds that reflect a unique quality of light. Tre Porte, Grotta del Diavolo, and Grotta del Soffio: three extraordinary caves accessible only by sea, reached by daily boat excursions departing from the seafront.
From DimoreLeuka, on Via Enea 51, the promenade is just a few minutes’ walk away. Close enough to hear the sound of the sea in the morning. Far enough from the bustle to sleep peacefully at night.
